In this regulatory vacuum, manufacturers set their own serving sizes — and those sizes vary dramatically across products with identical claimed concentrations.

This means that 25mg of CBD in a gummy and 25mg of CBD in a sublingual tincture are not pharmacologically equivalent. A consumer switching between product types without adjusting dose is effectively changing their dose without realizing it.

A Practical Framework: The Low-and-Slow Method

Given the variables described above, a structured titration approach — commonly called "low and slow" — is the most defensible starting strategy for new CBD users.

Step 1: Establish a baseline dose. Begin with the lowest reasonable dose for your body weight and product type. For most adults using a sublingual tincture, this might be 10–15mg per day.

Step 2: Hold steady for one week. Do not change the dose during this period. Keep a simple daily log noting time of ingestion, dose amount, and any observed effects — positive or negative. Consistency is essential for meaningful self-assessment.

These are indicators that the guidance is marketing-driven rather than science-informed.

Equally important: no CBD product currently sold as a supplement should be positioned as a treatment for a diagnosed medical condition. If you are managing a specific health condition, dosing decisions should be made in partnership with a healthcare provider familiar with cannabinoid therapeutics.

Finding an effective CBD dose is a process of informed self-experimentation, not a matter of following a label. Body composition, metabolism, ECS function, and product bioavailability all shape how CBD behaves in your body — and none of those variables are captured in a manufacturer's generic serving suggestion.
